Support Program Summary
Annual April-June April Intake Programe
CIS accepts new students in April of each year as well as in September. These students may require extensive language support. During this three month period this will be provided for each student. All new April Intake program students are "imbedded" in their age appropriate grade level classes. Students from grade K-6 participate fully in the IB PYP program units of inquiry. And grade 7-112 students attend all regular classes. Language support is provided for students using a variety of models depending on the needs of the student
Annual July (3 week summer school)
This session is relatively academic with a focus on English reading, listening, writing, viewing. It is attended by mainly CIS students who have been recommended by teachers and or parents. Some April-June English Language support students may also apply to continue English Language development before September. Some students may attend this school for extra help from a teacher in grade 7-10 subjects. AM vs. PM sessions in preparation for supplementary exams.
Annual July-August (2 week summer school)
This session is for mainly non CIS students and is often called a summer "English Camp" All activities are conducted in English but there are field trips, picnics, and other enjoyable activities. Some CIS English Language support (April-June) + (July) students may attend.
Annual September -June CIS English Language support program
Language support during the regular at CIS is designed to provide additional instruction for students who are completing the regular academic IB PYP and/or Canadian program. All students are required to still participate in the prescribed curriculum for each course. The student would be expected to complete assignments and other scheduled class / grade level activities. Some modification of the grade level requirements may be made especially at the beginning of the year.
