CIS Summer School Information 2012

Please find below an outline of the CIS summer school with dates for 2012. Group A summer schools are designed primarily for students of CIS, while Group B summer schools may be attended by CIS students and other students who wish to improve English language skills.

Group A - Summer School Options

Summer School #A1

Target group: Students who are presently registered for or scheduled to attend CIS in September.
Grade Level: Primarily grades prekindergarten (K4), kindergarten (K5), and Grade 1
Date: July 2, - July 20, 2012 (3 weeks - 15 days of instruction)
Time: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Content: This class will focus on the further development of English language skills. Enjoyable activities, games, and other interesting events will be the strategy used to improve the English skills of the students. However the CIS Canadian curriculum will be used to focus academic activities.
Cost: 150,000 yen + materials

Summer School #A2

Target group: Students who are presently registered for or scheduled to attend CIS in September.
Grade Level: Primarily grades 2 to 5.
Date: July 2, - July 20, 2012 (3 weeks - 15 days of instruction)
Time: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Content: This class will provide further development of English Language skills. Attention will be given to the development of specific skills of speaking, writing, reading, and listening. Some aspects of the Canadian elementary curriculum in social studies, science, and mathematics will also be used to encourage the development of English language skills.
Cost: 150,000 yen + materials

Summer School #A3

Target group: Students who are presently registered for or scheduled to attend CIS in September. (The PM session is for present CIS students only)
Grade Level: Grades 6-11
Date: July 2, - July 20, 2012 (15 days, Monday to Friday of each week)
Time: AM (9:00-12:00) and /or PM (1:00-3:30)
Content:
AM Session
This session will focus on the further development of English Language skills necessary for success at the junior and senior high school level. The academic focus of these sessions will provide the students more study of English grammar to improve writing, English pronunciation practice to improve speaking, and an emphasis on English comprehension to improve listening and reading.
PM Session
This session will provide an opportunity for CIS students to improve grades in other academic subject areas. Students will under the direction of a teacher review material taught during the regular year in mathematics, science and other curriculum areas as requested by the students. Supplementary exams in grade 7-11 subjects will also be provided to those students who request them at the end of the summer school session. Each academic area will be evaluated using a weekly test on July 7, 14, and a final supplementary exam on July 21st. The results of these tests and exam may provide for grade promotion or credits for those students who were not successful during the previous regular school year.

Group B - Summer School Options

Summer School #B1

Target group: CIS and other students who wish to improve English language skills. This will focus particularly on the further development of speaking and listening comprehension skills.
Grade Level: Primarily grades prekindergarten (K4), kindergarten (K5), and Grade 1
Date: July 23 - Aug 3, 2012 (2 weeks - 10 days of instruction)
Time: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Cost: 100,000yen + materials

Summer School #B2

Target group: CIS and other students who wish to improve English skills. This will focus particularly on the further development of speaking, listening, writing, reading comprehension and viewing skills.
Grade Level: Primarily grades 2 to 5.
Date: July 23 - Aug 3, 2012 (2 weeks - 10 days of instruction)
Time: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Cost: 100,000yen + materials

Summer School #B3

Target group: CIS and other students who wish to improve English skills. This will focus particularly on the further development of speaking, listening, writing, reading comprehension and viewing skills.
Grade Level: Grades 6-9
Date: July 23 - Aug 3, 2012 (2 weeks - 10 days of instruction)
Time: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
